The statue of Pieta

Opposite the Calvary sculture there is another sculpture - a cross, or pieta - the descent from the cross. Initially, there were no sculptures on the Charles Bridge; they appeared only in the 17th century. But it was on the site of this sculpture that a wooden cross stood. This is where trials used to take place. A person who did not want to confess to a crime was tied with his hands and feet and thrown into the river. If a person drowned, it meant that it was his sins that pulled him to the bottom of the river. And if a person swam out, then it means he is not to blame. But just in case, he was immediately sent to the torture chamber so that he would confess there, if he was not in collusion with the Devil, and it was the Devil who helped him survive.
