The statue of Calvary

On a bridge there is 30 statues. About some of them I will tell you the stories.

This sculpture is called calvaria, a crucifix. At the top you can see an inscription in gold letters in Hebrew, translated as "Holy Holy Holy Lord of of the Masses." It’s very important expression of Judaism. But here, over the crucifix, the text intended to offend Jewish community previously. Because Jewish faith didn’t recognize Christ, because after his activities a lot of pogroms and persecutions came to Jewish race. Therefore in Hebrew, Jezus name sound as "Eshua" , it’s abbreviation. Abbreviation of sentence "Somebody, whos name I want to forget".

The creation of this golden lettes had to be paid for by a Jewish merchant with his own money in the end of 17th century.
