This square was named after patron of Czech - Saint Wenceslas. He was a princ, ruled county in the beginning of 10th century. People knew him as fair ruler, warm-hearted and philanthropic man. But he was killed by his own brother in the fight for the crown. The other reasons for a murder was difference of religion. Wenceslas was one of the very first Christians in the country. Christianity was taught to him by his grandmother Lyudmila, the statue of her you can see ahead on the left of Wenceslas. The brother was Pagan.
