Inside the church

The temple has very expensive decoration from the Baroque era. Lots of gold color, lots of paintings. It was believed that when entering the temple, a person had to bow before the beauty of the Catholic faith. But there is another explanation for the religious pictures: before, people were uneducated. They couldn’t read. They couldn’t read the Bible. And therefore, relying on such paintings on the ceiling and walls, it was convenient for parishioners to explain biblical stories.

Pay attention to the large slabs embedded in the floor - these are tombstones. Previously, it was considered very correct to be buried directly in the temple, because this is a holy place and the soul of buried person directly goes to heaven without God’s judgement. Monks and priests, who doing worships here, could be buried in the temple.

In old Catholic churches throughout Europe you can see a lot of similar slabs embedded in the floor.

Also take a look on the right and left sides there are a chambers for confessions.

Now they are not used, unlike before. In the middle, inside this chamber, there was seating a priest. And at the sides, there were two in line, people were going to receive communion. Why two lines? The fact is that previously every person had to come here for communion on Sunday. But it was impossible to talk about sin without first praying. And so that this process would go faster, one person prayed, and the second person already talked about sin. Of course, both could hear each other. But the idea is that we cannot judge each other, but only God can. And it was impossible to hide anything, because the second one idea is that God anyway sees everything. And it is better to tell the truth than to remain silent.
