Clementinum

Clementinum

Its name this complex get from church of St.Clement, located nearby.

When in Bohemia had passing religious wars, the Pope had sent the Jesuits here for solving problem by amicable way. The Jesuits monks should lead process of recatolizacion. Means, force Protestants to convert back to Catholicism.

For Jezuits here was built this huge complex. What is second largest complex in Prague after Prague castle.

Now this area is empty. No Jezuits in Bohemia now. The Pope recalled all of them on the end of 18th century. The reason was excessive propagation of religion by monks. And as a result, the locals are unwilling to believe in principle.

So, what happens today here? Now there is a chappel for organ concerts and museum: the library with grandiose baroque interior and astronomical tower. You will not get inside the library, but you will see it through the glass doors. But you can climb the astronomy tower. There you will see ancient objects for studying the night luminaries, which is very interesting.

If you would like to visit, please turn into the gate on your right side. There you will find cash desk and cozy small yard with hidden highlights.
