Church of St.Nicolas

St.Nicholas church on Old Town square is baroque style. At that period the churches usually were buiidet round shape, light colour of facade, many statues of saints, gold colour of some details.

Currently this church is protestants. But previously it was orthodox christian church. The same faith like in Russia, Serbia or Greece. Therefore emperor of Russia - Nicholas Second gave the present to this church - the giant chandelier made from bohemian glass and looks like a royal crown.

The interior of protestants churches must be poor. The holly cross only could be inside as a decoration. Not any pictures, gems or golg, no possible! It is condition of protestants faith, according which believers coming to the temple for speaking with God. Not to admire a pictures and statues. In general, all decorative elements only distract from communication with God.

But since the interior of the temple has museum significance, the space was cleared of decorations only up to the chandelier; if you look above the chandelier, frescoes and patterns are visible. It can not be removed.

If the church is open, you can come in to watch the chandelier and design of interior. You don’t need to pay the admission fee.

Today, divine services are rarely held in this temple. It is mainly used for organ concerts for tourists, like all the churches in the city center.
